What to expect studying hairdressing
Studying a hairdressing qualification will give you the chance to learn on the job and receive personalised, one to one training from one of our dedicated trainer coaches. Get stuck into learning and blend creativity and technical ability to enhance your skillset and progress your career.
Access support through our online learning platform, Moodle. With a range of resources available 24/7, you will have everything you need to complete your qualification. No need to leave the salon, we come to you to deliver assessments.

What you will learn during your hairdressing course
You will learn the foundations of cutting, styling and colouring hair, working with a variety of hair types and textures. Style and colour hair using a wide range of techniques to achieve a variety of looks.
Both our Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications require completing mandatory and optional units. Explore different aspects of hairdressing, from perming hair and colour correction to providing hair extension and relaxing services. Develop and evaluate your creative skills alongside customer service and business management skills.
Communication, digital literacy and application of number are an integral part of each apprenticeship framework. Essential Skills are fundamental to your development and training and will further increase your opportunities for employment and progression.
Different levels of hairdressing apprenticeships
Our Level 2 Hair Professional course is designed for beginners who are starting out in their career, equipping them with necessary skills to work in the salon. As a Level 2 learner you will learn the fundamentals of hair care, including shampooing and conditioning, colouring and lightening and build confidence in client consultation. Explore additional skills such as perming and men’s hair cutting.
For those with more salon experience, our Level 3 Hair Professional qualification delves into advanced techniques and salon practices, offering a natural progression from Level 2. Elevate your creativity and broaden your skillset through a combination of techniques. Expand your expertise in various areas, from colour correction to providing specialised hair and scalp treatments.
Level 2 Hair Professional
18 Months
Perfect for those starting out in the hairdressing industry, our qualification lays the foundation for you to excel in your career. You will learn key skills to help you progress to a junior stylist role, including shampooing, conditioning, cutting and styling.
Level 3 Hair Professional
18 Months
Our qualification will help you further develop and specialise your skills in the hairdressing industry. The training is focussed on advanced hairdressing techniques and salon practices. It is suited to those who have completed our Level 2 Hairdressing qualification and want to progress into a senior stylist role.

What happens after your hairdressing course
Once you have completed your Level 2 Hairdressing qualification, you can progress onto our Level 3 course. Continue to hone your skills and advance towards higher paid job roles.
If your salon specialises in type 4 hair, you can develop your skills in afro and multi-textured hair. We are proud to be Wales’s first training provider to offer the opportunity to specialise in type 4 hair.
You will be invited to attend our annual graduation ceremony Gradu8, where you can celebrate with friends and family in achieving a nationally accredited qualification. Further expand your skillset with a Level 2 or 3 apprenticeship in Barbering, Social Media for Business or Digital Marketing.
Hairdressing apprenticeships in Wales FAQs
Our hairdressing courses are fully funded by the Welsh Government which means they are at no additional cost to you or your employer. Studying an apprenticeship means you get paid to learn.
There are no formal qualifications required to do an apprenticeship in hairdressing. As long as you have a passion for hair, you can apply direct to an apprenticeship via our apprenticeship vacancies page or Contact Us to find out how we can deliver the course in your salon.
Our Level 2 and 3 courses take approximately 15 months to complete. All training and assessments are delivered in the salon and digital resources can be accessed via Moodle for remote learning.
If you have previously completed Essential Skills or can provide suitable evidence, such as GCSE certificates or equivalents, you may be excused from completing this part of the qualifications.
